Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate!

This luxurious and decadent drink would be perfect for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day!

It’s loaded with that nostalgic chocolate orange flavor. It’s thick but still drinkable. It should be thick enough to lightly coat the back of your spoon but still drip off of the spoon.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• 1 1/2 cups whole milk

• 1/2 cup heavy cream

• 1 whole chocolate orange *I like dark but milk chocolate oranges work too!

• 2 Tbsp cocoa powder

• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

In a medium size saucepan begin by adding your milk and heavy cream and letting that begin to warm. Whisk consistently to prevent scalding the milk and cream. Nothing is worse than starting over!

Now that the milk and cream are warm, we are going to add our chocolate orange. Here is where I get very specific! Add 14 slices of your chocolate orange to the pot and let the chocolate being to melt while you stir! The more patient you are, the more perfect the hot chocolate.

Just keep whisking. Eventually all the tiny bits of chocolate will melt and give way to the smoothest and creamiest hot chocolate.

While the chocolate is melting and you are getting an arm workout from whisking, add the cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Whisk those ingredients in making sure that no lumps remain.

When your hot chocolate begins to thicken and the chocolate specks in it have melted, it’s time to enjoy!

Pour and serve immediately as this hot chocolate will thicken slightly as it cools.

A big dollop of whipped cream (very lightly sweetened) and chocolate orange flakes take it over the top!
